2024 Employee of the Year
January 28, 2025
At Concord Health and Rehabilitation, we are thrilled to celebrate our Employee of the Year, Karen Thompson! Karen’s story is one of resilience, kindness, and inspiration, and we are so proud to have her on our team.
Karen, who works in dietary, is far more than an exceptional employee—she is a truly remarkable person. After retiring in 2019, she decided to return two years later, proving that her passion for helping others was far from finished. At 78 years young, Karen has the energy and determination of someone half her age. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, while many of us faced challenges, Karen made a life-changing decision to focus on her health and successfully lost an incredible 170 pounds through diet and exercise. Her dedication is nothing short of inspiring.
Even in the face of personal loss, including the passing of her two sons—one in infancy and another a few years ago—Karen continues to approach life with an uplifting and positive attitude.
“Holidays are just very different now,” she says, but her spirit remains unshaken.
Karen’s selflessness shines through in every aspect of her life. When she won an Xbox gaming system during our employee gift giveaway, she immediately offered to trade it with a coworker whose son had been hoping for one. She didn’t even ask what she’d receive in return—it was simply Karen being Karen. Her coworkers adore her, not only for her generosity but also for the thoughtful treats she brings during the holidays and her willingness to cover shifts with a smile.
As Karen says,
“I don’t have to go to work; I get to go to work.” That sentiment perfectly captures her incredible work ethic and the joy she brings to everyone around her.
Karen, thank you for embodying the values of Concord Health and Rehabilitation. Your kindness, dedication, and positivity inspire us all, and we are so grateful to have you on our team. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!
