New Administrator Starts at Wheelersburg Nursing Home
September 15, 2020Wheelersburg, Ohio - Concord Health & Rehabilitation is excited to introduce our new Nursing Home Administrator, Nick Heaberlin! Nick, his wife, and their two children are residents of Ironton, Ohio. Nick comes from a long lineage of nursing home operators as his great grandfather, grandmother, and father were all nursing home administrators. Nick is excited to come to Concord and support the caregivers, residents, and management team through servant leadership.
Today we put Nick on the spot and asked him several questions so that we could all get to know him a little more. His answers are provided below. Enjoy!
Nick, Tell us a little about your family?
I've been married to my wife, Christine, for almost three years. We have two boys, Riley is two years old, and Reid is two months old. We also have a dog named Samson, who is a Husky.
Make a prediction now, will Riley and Reid be Nursing Home Administrators when they grow up?
I think Riley will. He likes to do everything that daddy likes to do.
Besides the fact that you come from a Nursing Home family, how did you know that a career in nursing homes was the path for you?
As you said, I've been in nursing homes my whole life. Every summer, and many nights, I was raised seeing the example and learning the importance of providing a great home for the residents. I got to see my grandmother and the way she treated her employees and genuinely cared for each resident and family member, and it excited me to know how much of a difference I could make in many people's lives by following their example.
How would you describe the average day of a nursing home administrator?
Being a nursing home administrator is never boring because no day is ever the same. The needs of my job change based upon the needs of these residents and team members. One day may consist of more meetings, other days may be more listening and helping solve problems, another day may be filled with ice cream and karaoke, but the key is to be out on the floor walking, participating, and ensuring that everyone is well cared for.
What is one of our core values that you try to live out each day?
It's never about the role. It's always about the goal. Basically, it doesn't matter what your job title is. All of us are here for the residents, and none of us are too good for any of their needs. No exceptions.
What does it look like, in a practical sense, for an administrator to live out "It's Never About the Role, It's Always About the Goal?"
It could be picking up trash, helping to answer call lights, passing trays, or really anything. The key is finding out what is needed and jumping in to get it done. Titles don't matter. Residents do.
Final Question: Nick, when you aren't doing nursing home things, what's some of your favorite things to do?
I love golf. I love to golf with my son, or just by myself. We also really love to go to the zoo as a family. Our favorite is the Columbus Zoo. I also love watching cartoons with my sons.
